The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

OsloMet is working to develop Norway’s best nursing education and therefore needs leading expert environments in several nursing fields at our new university. Would you like to lead to the work on developing the skills training and simulation Field?

The Department of Nursing and Health Promotion at the Faculty of Health Sciences has a vacancy for a professor with expertise in the field of skills training and medical simulation to strengthen research and education in this area.

Students can use skills training and medical simulation to practise relevant and challenging situations by simulating incidents from clinical work in a risk-free environment. This helps to improve the quality of and increase patient safety in the health services. Research and education are closely related and we are looking for someone who is both comfortable developing research projects and who can contribute to research-based and practice-based education.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, which has seven research groups. This position will reinforce the research group Learning and Collaboration.

The position entails close collaboration with the health science programmes at bachelor’s, master’s and further education levels. You will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of skills training and medical simulation, and this also encompasses own research and supervision of students. You must be inquisitive about and interested in the work of your colleagues and be ambitious on your students’ behalf. The candidate must be interested in different approaches to knowledge and methodology, reflect an independent research profile and have the ability to address new problem areas. Teaching and supervision experience at master’s and PhD levels are prerequisites. The candidate must be proactive in using different digital learning resources. His/her willingness to contribute to strengthening the staff's knowledge and expertise will be emphasised.

It is important that you wish to contribute to achieving the faculty’s strategy of quality, robustness and relevance in its study programmes and research. Needs-based, practice-based research can lead to an improvement of the profession and the health situation of patients/users, and this constitutes an important strategic priority area.


Main duties of the position 

  • initiating and conducting research of high quality and academic breadth in the subject area, and publishing and disseminating research results
  • applying for external research funding
  • contributing to the development of the faculty’s and department’s national and international academic activities
  • quality assuring learning effects and benefits from skills training and medical simulation
  • planning, teaching and supervision of students in skills training and medical simulation
  • participating in digitalised dissemination and communication
  • initiating and developing new models for skills training and medical simulation, including in cooperation with the field of practice
  • reinforcing the staff’s knowledge and expertise in the field


You may also be asked to teach and supervise in other relevant subject areas at the department.


We are looking for candidates who have  

  • professor qualifications and experience in the field of skills training and medical simulation
  • experience with and the ability to initiate, obtain external funding for, manage, and carry out large research and development projects
  • relevant clinical experience from the healthcare field
  • teaching qualifications and teaching and supervision experience at university college/university level
  • experience with relevant international research networks and the ability to build and maintain networks at the regional, national and international levels
  • good oral and written presentation skills in English


If the candidate does not have the required skills in Norwegian or a Scandinavian language, he/she will be offered training to be able to carry out the tasks involved in the position and/or field of work. You must be able to document Norwegian skills at a level corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of being hired.


It is an advantage if you also have

  • experience of and/or interest in the development and use of varied learning methods and digital tools in teaching
  • experience of innovation and dissemination of research

 

Importance will be attached to documented teaching qualifications and experience. If you do not have relevant teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete the university's basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within two years.

OsloMet will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1013, Professor. The salary is NOK 695,500–893,900 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
