Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

We are looking for an inspiring leader with broad expertise

The Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Life Sciences and Health, is looking for a new leader of the teaching and research groups connected to the Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Programme and the Master's Programme in Biomedicine.

We are looking for a clear and development-oriented leader with experience from management, broad expertise and experience from relevant field. The leader will be appointed for a fixed term of four years, with the possibility of applying for a further two terms. The position is vacant now.

The department offers bachelor’s degree programmes in biomedical laboratory sciences, pharmacy, radiography and dental technology, a master’s degree programme in biomedicine and a number of further education programmes that are both specific to health sciences and interdisciplinary. The department has a focus on externally funded research activity and efficient use of student-activating forms of teaching and digitalisation. The academic community relating to the Biomedical Laboratory Sciences programme and the Master's Programme in Biomedicine is co-located at the Pilestredet campus and staffs around 35 employees. There are approx. 230 students affiliated to the two programmes.

The Faculty of Health Sciences has two PhD programmes. The leader has personnel responsibility for research fellows and other temporary researchers affiliated to the biomedical laboratory and biomedicine programmes.

Area of responsibility

As the leader, you will have academic and administrative responsibility for the Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Programme and the Master's Programme in Biomedicine. The position is also responsible for personnel and financial management. You will actively contribute to strategic work and the further development of the research environment in cooperation with the department’s other managerial employees.

The programme coordinator is part of the department’s management team, which actively contributes to OsloMet’s efforts to be a university that ‘delivers knowledge that can solve society’s problems’.

Some teaching and research tasks that fall within the scope of the leader´s scientific background and interest role may be added by agreement. The position can be combined with own research activity.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • higher education in the health field, preferably at associate professor/professor level, and at least at master’s level
  • experience from personnel management
  • broad expertise and experiece from relevant field
  • experience of teaching and/or research
  • good oral and written skills in a Scandinavian language and English


It is an advantage if you have:

  • experience of financial management
  • experience from the higher education sector
  • an interest in developing digital learning resources
  • emphasis will be placed on expertise that compliments that of the rest of the management group at the Department

  • solution-oriented and result-oriented, with the ability to make decisions
  • the ability to develop the academic community and build relations, internally, nationally and internationally.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1473, Head of studies, currently NOK 670,000–754,900 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
