The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

There is a vacancy at the Faculty of Health Sciences for the position of Head of the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion. The head of department will be appointed for a fixed term of four years, with the possibility of applying for a further two terms – 12 years in total. The position is vacant from 1 June 2019.


OsloMet is working to develop one of Norway’s best nursing education programmes and a leading expert environment in several nursing fields at our new university. The department offers bachelor’s degrees in nursing and paramedics, and a number of master’s programmes, including in public health nutrition and midwifery, and hosts pertaining research activities. The department is undergoing extensive development and change work, including work on a new common programme description that will be implemented in 2020, the use of service design for organisational development, and efforts to strengthen the academic environments.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, which has seven research groups, and we regularly hire research fellows.

The department currently comprises nine programme coordinator areas of responsibility. 


Responsibilities and area of work

The head of department has responsibility for performance in research, education, development work and dissemination at the department. The position is also responsible for HR and budgeting.

The person appointed will be responsible for following up the board’s goal that the nursing programmes will be at the forefront of research and education. He/she will also secure the framework conditions and endeavour to ensure cooperation between the academic environments at the department, at OsloMet, nationally and internationally.

The education sector is undergoing significant changes, and the candidate must have the ability to initiate academic renewal and strategic planning based on society’s needs. You will form a key part of the dean’s management group and contribute to the development of a faculty with great ambitions. We are looking for a candidate who will be a driving force at our new university and who actively participates in meetings with students and staff.


The head of department is given administrative support in his/her work.

Arrangements will be made for the candidate to combine the position with own research time.

Main duties of the position

  • ensuring that the department is developed in line with applicable legislation, regulations, and adopted strategies and goals
  • taking an active role in ensuring that the nursing programmes become the best in the country based on the most recent research and professional development work
  • active internal cooperation at the university and with society and the labour market regionally, nationally and internationally
  • contributing to the dean's management group and in the faculty's strategic work to, among other things, obtain synergies and interdisciplinary collaborative learning across departments and academic fields
  • working to maintain a good, integrated and diverse learning and working environment for students and staff
  • facilitating externally-funded research assignments

Qualification requirements

 

  • higher education at associate professor or ideally professor level
  • management experience, preferably from the field of research and education, and/or from the health service, with verifiable results
  • knowledge of the department’s academic fields
  • experience of change processes and work in multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary environments
  • experience and good understanding of financial management and personnel management
  • good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian or other Scandinavian language and English

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1475, Head of Department. Salary NOK 754,900 – 893,900 per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
