Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. The university is now seeking a forward-looking Vice Rector for R&D who can identify with our values (learning – innovative – diverse), and who can help to ensure that the university develops in line with our vision of delivering knowledge to solve societal challenges. We are looking for a candidate who can contribute to the university’s ambition of becoming a leader in profession-oriented research, education and lifelong learning, at the regional, national and international level.

The Vice Rector for R&D will form part of the university’s management and will have an academic manager role with power of decision delegated by the Rector. The Vice Rector must have a good dialogue and clarify the division of responsibility with relevant units and academic communities across OsloMet.

Duties include:

  • accentuating OsloMet’s competitive advantage and positioning the university as a leading educational and research institution nationally and internationally
  • working to ensure that OsloMet’s academic activities are aimed at and developed in accordance with society’s competence needs.
  • contributing to the university achieving its strategic goals and other research policy guidelines
  • networking with key partners in the education sector, business and industry, and public authorities
  • helping OsloMet to be at the forefront of relevant arenas in society, to set the agenda in research and education debates, and to be a central player in the efforts to address the major future challenges of the welfare society
  • being a driving force in the academic development of and cooperation between OsloMet’s activities in close dialogue with heads of centres, deans and heads of department
  • enabling OsloMet to create value and being labour market-oriented, and to be a preferred partner for the sector, employers, business and industry, and public authorities

The Vice Rector for R&D will also contribute to management and coordination of OsloMet at the overall level through dialogue with managers and participation in management groups.

Qualifications

The position requires a PhD and experience from the university’s core activities.

Candidates must also have:

  • experience of leading complex knowledge organisations
  • experience of research management
  • experience of managing change processes, strategy development and implementation
  • insight into international and national development processes, and trends within higher education and research
  • excellent oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, position code 1062. Salary from NOK 1,046,600 – 1,159,900. A higher salary may be considered. The appointment is for a fixed term of four years starting on 1 August 2019.
