The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

The Department of Nursing and Health Promotion at the Faculty of Health Sciences has a vacancy for one or two permanent positions as an associate professor in the field of mental healthcare and substance abuse care.

We are looking for someone who is ambitious on their students’ behalf, who enjoys teaching, supervision and research, and who is prepared to use various digital learning resources.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, which has seven research groups, and we regularly hire research fellows. As an associate professor, 35% of your position will be dedicated research time.

If no applicants with associate professor qualifications apply, applicants may be appointed to a temporary position as an assistant professor.


Main duties of the position

  • teaching, supervising and developing student-active learning methods at both bachelor's and master’s level
  • R&D activities, and publishing and disseminating research results
  • participating in the development of research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the expert community
  • participating in and further developing national and international collaboration

You may also be asked to teach and supervise in other relevant subject areas at the department.


We are looking for candidates who have 

  • relevant higher education at associate professor level
  • relevant master's and ideally a bachelor's degree in nursing
  • expertise in the field of mental healthcare and substance abuse care
  • good oral and written English skills


If the candidate does not have the required skills in Norwegian or a Scandinavian language, he/she will be offered training to be able to carry out the tasks involved in the position.


The candidate should have

  • recent clinical experience in mental healthcare and substance abuse care
  • experience of teaching and supervision at university/university college level
  • expertise in the use of digital learning tools

Importance will be attached to documented teaching qualifications and experience. If you do not have relevant teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete the university's basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within two years.

OsloMet will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.


General criteria for appointments to positions as associate professor are found in the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, code 1011 (førsteamanuensis) / 1098 (førstelektor). Salary NOK 524,200–682,200 per year.

A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
