Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Health Sciences consists of five departments and offers study programmes on all levels, including PhD. The faculty has about 6000 students and nearly 600 members of staff.

Department of Nursing and Health Promotion is located at all three campus: Kjeller, Pilestredet and Sandvika. The department has approximately 3000 students and 250 employees.

The Faculty of Health Sciences, the Department of Nursing and Health Promotion, has a vacancy for a professor in the field of mental health care, to take up the position on 1 August 2019. We are looking for a candidate who will help to strengthen the academic, scientific and student-oriented work at the faculty.

If no applicants who are qualified for appointment as a professor apply, an applicant may be appointed to a temporary position as a professor on the condition that he/she qualifies for a permanent position within three years.

The position will be affiliated to the bachelor's degree programme, advanced programme and master's programme in mental health care. The master's degree course is a collaboration between the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Cooperation with other departments at the Faculty of Health Sciences and OsloMet in general on teaching and research activities is a possibility. The candidate appointed is also expected to participate in the development of the academic communities' research qualifications.

Extensive research activity is conducted at the department, which has many research groups. The Faculty of Health Sciences has currently two PhD programmes.

Main duties of the position

  • conducting research and disseminating research results in the field of mental health care
  • initiating and contributing to applications for funds for externally funded research
  • lecturing on the department's programmes, supervising students and grading assignments
  • lecturing on the faculty’s PhD programme, and supervising PhD students
  • further developing national and international cooperation with new and established partners in the field
  • contributing to the development of the research group in mental health care at the department/faculty
  • develop cooperation across the departments at the university 

We are looking for candidates who have

  • professor/associate professor qualifications in a relevant subject area
  • good IT skills
  • good English skills (written and oral)

In connection with the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the candidate's overall academic production, and the person appointed must have academic qualifications in one of more of the following fields:

  • theory and empirical knowledge of mental health, mental health care and treatment research
  • mental health promotion and prevention activities
  • health service research with emphasis on mental health care
  • organisation and coordination of mental health care
  • the users and the next of kin’s experience of mental health and mental health services

 

If the candidate does not have the required skills in Norwegian or a Scandinavian language, he/she will be offered training to be able to carry out the tasks involved in the position and/or field of work. You must be able to document Norwegian skills at a level corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of being hired.

It is an advantage if you have

  • experience of developing and leading research projects and groups
  • demonstrated an ability to secure external funding for research projects
  • experience of building communities and networking
  • experience of user participation in research
  • experience of modern research strategies such as Open Innovation
  • leadership experience or have participated in national and international research networks
  • ongoing research activity and recent scientific publications in the field of mental health
  • clinical experience and practice of mental health care
  • teaching and supervision experience at university college/university level 
  • experience of development and use of digital learning tools

Importance will be attached to documented teaching qualifications and experience. If you do not have relevant teaching qualifications, you must undertake to complete the university's basic teaching qualification programme (15 credits) within two years.

OsloMet will test teaching qualifications in connection with interviews.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for state employees, code 1013 professor, salary NOK 695,500–893,900. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
