SPS develops the study of professions as a multidisciplinary field of research, comprising research from a wide range of disciplines. SPS aims to be a leading centre for research and graduate study within the study of professions in the Nordic countries.
Research and Teaching
There is an available permanent position at the Centre for the Study of Professions (SPS) as Associate Professor in Education Research. You will help strengthen our research on qualifying for professions and quality of education in higher education. You will be central to teaching and development aimed at the employees at OsloMet. Your work will be part of the University’s emphasis on having research underpin teaching and qualification in line with our position as an educator of professions.
The Centre is a leading research and researcher-training environment for the study of professions, and we are, amongst other things, responsible for a PhD in the Study of Professions. The Centre is also responsible for the Postgraduate Certificate Teaching in Professional Education.
We study the knowledgebase of professions and ethical dilemmas facing professions, recruitment to education of professions, the significance of education as a qualifier and identity shaping arena, career and labour marked trajectories, the role of professions in shaping politics and implementation, and how someone in a profession uses their judgement and makes decisions, often with a large degree of discretion.
You will be working in a cross-disciplinary environment together with researchers and PhD candidates with a background from sociology, pedagogy, history, philosophy, political science, social anthropology, health, economy, psychology, and more.
Theoretically and methodologically, the Centre is diverse. We have also built up several quantitative databases, and use register data from Statistics Norway.
You will be associated with two of the research groups at the Centre: Professional knowledge, qualifying for professions and coping with the tasks of professional life (PKK) and Studies of the teaching profession, teacher education and education policy (TEPEE).
Presently there are about 50 persons affiliated with the Centre.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, 1011 Associate Professor, with a salary range between NOK 524.200-682.200 (annual). For particularly well qualified applicants we may consider a higher salary. By law, 2% of the salary will be deducted and sent to the State Pension Fund
