The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor’s degree programmes, a master’s degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

There are currently several active research groups at the Department of Computer Science. The Department is actively involved in the PhD program in Engineering Science, and the multi-disciplinary Master’s program in Applied Computer and Information Technology. Area of research

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design currently has an opening for a PhD position at the Department of Computer Science. The PhD fellow will be part of the research project “Artificial Intelligence – a novel tool in assisted reproduction technology” funded by the Research Council of Norway (FRIMEDBIO). Assisted reproduction technology is used to treat couples struggling with infertility. The PhD fellow will mainly work on developing machine learning models, and in particular deep learning models, that will be used to improve assisted reproduction technology and in the end reduce the chance of infertility.

 

Main duties of the position

The PhD candidate will focus on projects related to the research at the department. The position will be for a period of three or four years. A four year period will include 25% compulsory work (teaching, lab, or project supervision responsibilities at the department). The PhD position presupposes admission to the Faculty’s PhD program. Candidates who apply for a 4-year position also have to demonstrate good pedagogical skills and an interest for teaching and supervision.

You must have

  • a Master`s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics or other related fields with 120 ECTS or equivalent with an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E passing of grades and Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with an average grade of C and higher. Other degrees can also be considered depending on qualifications
  • experience with using machine learning methods
  • excellent written and spoken English

  • excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams under supervision
  • the ability to work independently, take initiative, plan, dimension and direct own work

Scientific publications will be an advantage.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, PhD Fellow, job code 1017. Salary NOK 479 600, pay grade 54. By law 2% of the salary is deducted as to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.
