Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

Applications are invited for a full-time three years postdoctoral fellowship in public administration at the Oslo Business School, OsloMet. The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

We are looking for a highly motivated and structured postdoctoral fellow with excellent research qualifications that can complement the department’s research on the public sector. The candidate will be a member of the research group Organization and Management in the Public Sector (ORGOFF). Research in this group includes topics such as institutional responses to welfare state challenges, public management reforms, strategic management, local governance and performance management and evaluation. The postdoctoral fellow will participate actively in the group.

The Oslo Business School places high priority on individuals who can collaborate in interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to further development of the department’s research portfolio and visibility.

Main duties of the position

  • The fellow is expected to prepare a project proposal and carry out research that adds value to the existing portfolio of the ORGOFF research group
  • The fellow will contribute to network building and strengthening the public research profile of the Oslo Business School
  • The fellow will actively work to disseminate the project’s research with a mission to contribute to new scientific knowledge and the publication thereof in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and book collections

Qualification requirements

Applicants must:

  • hold a PhD degree relevant to the ORGOFF research group. The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defense of the doctoral thesis being approved
  • be proficient in both written and oral English and one Scandinavian language
  • demonstrate knowledge of and interest in the public sector

General criteria for appointment to a position as Postdoc are stipulated in Regulations relating to Appointment (Forskrift om ansettelsesvilkår for stillinger som postdoktor, stipendiat, vitenskapelig assistent og spesialistkandidat) § 1-2, see details in Norwegian.

In the assessment of applicants, emphasis will be put on

  • The quality and relevance of the project description
  • The general academic and personal qualifications of the applicant
  • Collaborative skills as well as ability to work on individual basis

Priority will be given to candidates with experience and project proposals on

  • Reforms in the public sector
  • Digitalization in the public administration
  • Public sector efforts to integrate immigrants

Expert evaluation

An expert committee will assess applicants. You must upload the following documents together with your application by the final date for applications:

  • Cover letter (statement of motivation, summarizing scientific work and research interest)
  • Project description/research proposal, including a specification of research focus, theoretical perspectives, methodological strategies, and plans for progress and dissemination of output (3-5 pages)
  • CV, references and all pages of certificates/diplomas. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • Up to five academic publications, including your PhD dissertation and a list of your publications, if relevant

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees: 1352 Post doctor. Salary NOK 524 200 – 682 200. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the State Pension Fund.
