Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

The department has approximately 1250 students and 90 employees, and offers study programmes on bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level.

At the newly established Research Centre for Digitalisation of Public Services and Citizenship (CEDIC)- Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy, it is a vacancy for a fully funded two and half year postdoctoral research fellowship position.

CEDIC is an Excellent Academic Environment at OsloMet. The centre's main goal is to develop multi-disciplinary knowledge about the relationship between digitalisation and the provision of welfare services, the consequences of these tensions for welfare governance, democracy and social citizenship in mature welfare states. CEDIC examines how processes of digitalisation influence the provision of welfare state services, and the ability of citizens at risk of social exclusion to access, use and benefit from these services. A core issue is how digitalisation modifies the capabilities of different population groups to exercise social citizenship; to participate as full and effective members of society.

The research focus

The postdoctoral fellow is supposed to contribute to the theoretical and empirical analyses of digitalization and social policy, including the effects on welfare provisions, the risks of exclusion from full social citizenship. We are interested in social and economic effects of policies and work organization in the EU and in the separate countries. How do public and private service providers work to prevent exclusion? How do digital capabilities affect individual citizenship of households and persons?

The postdoctoral fellow will work in close collaboration with Professor Karl Ove Moene, Professor Rune Halvorsen, Professor Marit Haldar and Professor Jacqueline O'Reilly. Applicants with training in policy analyses and quantitative methods are particularly suitable.

The applicants are invited to submit a draft research proposal (5 pages) for the postdoc fellowship period, including a state-of-the-art review, research question(s), data sources and methods, and relevant theoretical perspectives.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The aim of a postdoctoral fellow is for the candidate to work towards further academic qualification. Therefore, the main duty of the postdoctoral fellow is to produce and publish research in academic publications.

Required qualifications:

  • a Ph.D. degree in a relevant discipline in sociology, political science, social policy, or economics

In the assessment and ranking of qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • research skills and experience as demonstrated in a strong Ph.D. and other publications where relevant
  • the quality of the postdoctoral research proposal, including originality and potential
  • the feasibility of the proposed project within the fellowship period
  • the relevance of the research proposal to the overall research focus of CEDIC
  • attached scientific publications
  • other relevant publications
  • ability to communicate well in English, both verbally and in written form

Desired qualifications:

  • motivation and potential in the field of research
  • personal qualities that, among other things, show perseverance and the ability to complete tasks
  • the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, as well as the ability to be innovative and creative
  • the ability to work systematically and under pressure

Remuneration
 

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service and OsloMets salary policy 1352 Postdoc. The salary is NOK 543 500-702 100 per year, depending on level of competence / length of service.
